I just got a question from a customer who required to disable the HP password manager. But only the manager, the login with finger pint should remain.
The solution here wasn´t that easy, as it looks like the “HP password manager” is installed with “HP Client Security Manager” to manage the finger prints. The “HP Client Security Manager” didn´t offer a solution to disable that and the customer wasn´t happy to choose in every application that he didn´t wish to save the password. So the only solution I found so far was via registry.
So browse to “HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\” and change the “Userinit” string. The string could look like the following (at least for the customer):
C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP ProtectTools Security Manager\Bin\DPAgent.exe,
so once that was changed to:
C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,
The customer is happy now, as the plugin isn´t any longer loaded.
